Audi is one of the largest companies and was created by August Horch in November of 1899 in Cologne Germany. In 1921 Audi became the first German car to have a left hand drive. In 1980 at the Geneva Motor Show, Audi became the first car to have all wheel drive with the Audi Quattro.
BMW is believed to be the largest German car company. Karl Rapp in 1913 made a business to make aero engines. However this company became very popular and Rapp left the company due to a variety of problems and Franz Josef Popp took the company over. The first BMW built was the 303 that has the signature BMW double-kidney grille. BMW has remained one of the top auto manufacturers in Germany.
