Germans are known around the world for making great cars. A list of the top automobile makes in the world quickly becomes a German cars list. That’s not surprising, because German manufacturing is great at making everything. Most countries have a reputation for making one or two signature items. Germans make everything superbly. They’ve had that reputation since manufacturing was born.
Germans Don’t Always Make German Cars
German auto manufacturing companies are becoming more international. The German car you love might not be made in Germany. All the major German automakers have plants scattered all over the world. Some make only one or two models abroad, other build a lot of their cars in other countries. We’ve assembled a German cars list that doesn’t have any German cars on it. These cars still feature German nameplates, and they’re made as well as cars from any country in the world –even cars made in Germany.
The Mercedes G-Class Is Made in Austria
The G-Class isn’t an SUV in the classic sense. It’s a Land Rover made by Germans, which is a great idea. It looks utilitarian because it’s useful, not because it’s pretending to be useful like a typical SUV. It is essentially a luxury model of a military-grade vehicle. Unlike a Land Rover, a G-Class starts every time you turn the key. Austria isn’t far from Germany, of course, and their car-making skills aren’t to far off, either.
