The Hyundai Elantra and Sonata are two of the more successful Hyundai vehicles currently on the market. The Sonata was first released in 1985 and is comes as a 4-door mid-size sedan. A common family car, the Sonata has always received high marks. The Elantra has followed a similar path and is sold as a compact vehicle, gaining popularity as a city vehicle. The previously discussed Hyundai actually owns a sizable share of Kia Motors, despite the fact that Kia began building vehicles before Hyundai. Kia Motors is the oldest automobile company in South Korea. During the Asian Financial Crisis at the end of the 1990’s Hyundai purchased shares of Kia from the Ford Motor Company. Since then, Kia Motors has gone through a restructuring that has helped it become the second largest automobile company in South Korea – after Hyundai.
